When we moved to China, we purchased an old worn-down kindergarten school and turned it into a home for unwanted, special needs children. It was our desire that every child that came would experience the love of a mother and father, in a place they could call “home”. We have the greatest honor to care for many babies and children who have been abandoned, abused and neglected. They are rare treasures; hidden behind deformities, disabilities and social prejudices. We have never seen such beauty, such grace, and such love before. We have found something so rare and valuable hidden in these little treasures… We often say that one smile from the sickest baby is worth more than any paycheck we ever received from our former life.
